Lost and Found in Havana - Hamish Blakely

When thinking of the Cuba setting, I instinctively thought of a dry, sandy backdrop. It suggested heat and the heady atmosphere of faraway places. These tones also seemed to complement the deep blues and purples of the couple's attire. The title implies the delight in two people finding each other either coincidentally or by design. This title also represents what can so often occur with personal belongings when travelling abroad, but with the optimism and reward that all may yet be found. What was thought of as missing is now present. Thi sis a metaphor for the two dancers. they find themselves in a strange land, perhaps a little discomposed, but fortune has led them to one another and the celebrations can begin.

There is real courtliness in the expression an dcarriage of the woman, almost as if she could take flight. She is reassuringly supported by the male figure, just emerging from th ehalf light as he holds her, bracing his knee in a position of stability and solid balance. Anatomy and its purpose are the central themes here. Her arched neck and cupped shoulders, down to her clasped hand and tucked leg, all create a rhythm that adds movement and energy to the piece.
