Lights of Broadway - Lesley Anne Derks

New to Washington Green and The Original Art Shop, Scottish artist Lesley Anne Derks comments on her new publication "Lights of Broadway"

I was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1977 and brought up in Grangemouth where I continue to live until this day.

All my work is based on places I have visited over the last few years. Im fascinated by the hustle and bustle of city night streets. The sounds, the smells, the lights and in particular the reflections they create. My aim is to produce work that evokes these feelings within the viewer, almost allowing them to step into these scenes, experiencing the lights, sounds and movement.

I painted this image as I felt it was typical of a New York street scene. The yellow taxis, the bright screens of advertisements. It shows people just going about their everyday lives.
