Venetian Lights - Neil Dawson

A new take on an old favourite - St Marks in Venice by Neil Dawson.

I am really pleased with my new collection of work for Spring 2010. I hope it represents a progression and evolution in my work whilst still containing the core elements of previous releases - namely use of a vibrant palette to portray iconic urban scenes from around the world.

I have recently expanded the cities that I paint beyond London and New York, in search of many more inspiring cityscapes to paint. Venice was a natural and enjoyable candidate! It's a beautiful and romantic city, full of grandeur that leads fantastically to be captured on canvas."Venetian Lights" and "Reflections On Rialto" portray two of the most recognisable and stunning landmarks in this unique city. Views that I hope will inspire a visit or bring back fond memories for many of this amazing place

I am also constantly trying to evolve my technique, looking at new ways to apply paint and build up my paintings. Previously I have often used lots of colourful circles to capture the dynamism of city streets. In 'City Icons - Ben' 'City Icons - Paul' and 'Electric Avenue I have taken this a step further. Obviously borrowing from  pointillism, but hopefully with my own slant on the idea, I have increased the use of these circles to take over the entire picture; creating a type of optical illusion that conveys the energy, vibrancy and movement of the cities.
